ZGlobal Provides Engineering Design Services for Caltrain Modernization Project
The Caltrain Modernization Program (CalMod) includes electrification and other projects that will upgrade the performance, efficiency, capacity, safety and reliability of Caltrain’s service. Electrification provides the foundation that future CalMod improvements are based on, including full conversion to an electric fleet, platform and station improvements, the extension of service to Downtown San Francisco, and other projects that allow Caltrain to grow and evolve with the Bay Area. ZGlobal’s services include the design of two substations, interconnection services to PG&E 115kv lines as well as cost allocation and reliability studies. In addition, ZGlobal will be provide owners engineer services to Caltrain.
The primary purpose of Caltrain electrification is to improve Caltrain system performance and curtail long-term environmental impacts by reducing noise, improving regional air quality, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Electrification improvements will better address Peninsula commuters’ vision of increased service and improved travel times in an environmentally friendly and reliable way. These service improvements are also expected to help accommodate increased system ridership through improved system operations. Caltrain electrification project is scheduled to be implemented in 2022.
