ZGlobal Hired to Evaluate a California 2000 MW Wind Project

July 31, 2018

The 2000 MW off the coast of California wind project scope has expanded to include analyzing the reliability benefits for various Southern California Points of Interconnection (POIs). In addition to the proposed Diablo and Ormond Beach interconnections, ZG engineers are evaluating the benefits that the offshore DC cable and potential wind capacity has to reduce Local Capacity Requirements (LCR) in the Big Creek/Ventura or LA Basin areas. The LCR requirements currently depend on capacity from existing gas fired plants that have requested to be repowered or face retirement because of OTC restrictions including, Alamitos and Huntington Beach. We are calculating the reliability benefits that the cable enables by importing power from Northern California (at Diablo 500 kV) or offshore wind to one or more interconnections in Southern California.
