POSITION: REAL-TIME ENERGY SCHEDULER INTERN

Job Purpose
The Real-Time Energy Scheduler Intern reports directly to the Energy Scheduling Manager and under the general supervision of the Real-Time Energy Supervisor. The Real-Time Energy Scheduler Intern will be working alongside the Real-Time Energy Scheduler who is responsible for updating and processing Real-Time Electronic tags (E-Tags), coordinating, updating and implementing real time energy and transmission schedules, accurately loading schedules into the Scheduling System. Responsible for pathing and tagging physical transactions as well as scheduling bilateral transactions in various ISOs or bilateral markets. There will be significant interaction required with a number of internal and external clients, including customers, counterparties, transmission service providers and Balancing Authority Areas. The Real-Time Energy Scheduler also provides general business and technical expertise in support of the administration, reporting and scheduling of wholesale power transactions. Energy Schedulers are responsible for relaying pertinent information from the scheduling environment to the trading group to stay current with gas/power scheduling practices. The Real-Time Energy Scheduler has major fiscal responsibility due to the frequency of short-term energy transactions. The Real-Time Energy Scheduler must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily and must be willing to assist in other positions as needed. The responsibilities listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Duties and Responsibilities

Acquires information regarding generation facilities, system load, fuel storage, transmission system and market prices for natural gas and electricity.

Develops and recommends plans to meet short-term power supply and fuel requirements.

Negotiates short term agreements for needed electric capacity, electric energy, transmission service and ancillary services.

Assembles and analyzes historical pricing data for electricity to develop pricing trends.

Plans for and directs generation operations and purchase and sale of generation or capacity and ancillary services.

Assesses risks associated with proposed electric power transactions, transmission transactions, ancillary services and generation operations and manages customer’s portfolio.

Evaluates, coordinates, prepares and maintains scheduling system entries; verifies all purchases, sales and interchanges with other utilities, marketers, brokers and the CAISO.

Develops deal tickets, or other approved recording mechanisms for power transactions.

Develops and manages receipts and transmittal of NERC electronic tagging for Real-time interchange transactions.

Purchases short term bilaterally market transmission as necessary.

Researches and schedules transmission on CAISO interconnection; weighs CAISO congestions, unscheduled flow conditions and real-time transmission markets.

Observes and analyzes weather patterns and short-term weather forecasts to assess weather impacts on loads and resources.

Communicate with Customers, Counterparties, Transmission Service Providers and Balancing Authority Areas on an hourly basis to maintain complete accuracy of energy schedules, as well as negotiate resolutions of problems and operating issues.
Job Requirements:
Level of Education: B.S. degree in a quantitative field such as, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or other technical field.
Amount of Experience: Experience may be substituted for required education at a ratio of two years’ experience for one year of education.
Type of Experience: Utility related industry experience.
Certification: Certification as a System Operator under the NERC or must be obtained within one year to continue employment in this position.
Working Conditions:

Required to sit at a console for long periods of time; stand for long periods of time, and will be frequently required to monitor conversations.

Required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be available on a 24-hour basis to cover shift obligations and/or respond to questions regarding transaction and agreements.
