Job Purpose

The Energy Market Analyst performs complex data analysis, develops strategy recommendations related to CAISO market activities such as generation offers, load bidding, and congestion hedging, and is responsible for developing data-driven reports for clients, CPUC, CEC, FERC, CARB and other applicable regulatory agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities

Congestion Markets:
-
Conduct analysis of the Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) market in California
-
Use the oracle database to analyze patterns in the CRR market in an effort to provide clients with hedging strategies consistent with their risk policies
-
Draw conclusions from the analysis in order to consistently minimize clients’ basis risk

Create strategies that minimize risk for clients. Involves an understanding of market mechanisms as well as a proficient understanding of SQL query.

Create a bid set for the congestion markets. Bid sets are generated by assessing historical patterns of market behavior and anticipating next month results.

Perform risk analysis and articulate an understanding of risk appetite to clients. Create different methods of understanding the risks associated with the paths in the congestion market. * Asset Valuation:

Work with clients to help them understand historical price behavior at a particular node.

Assist in running production cost model simulations using PLEXOS.

Create PowerPoint presentations that help illustrate to merchant client’s long-term risks associated with renewable resource implementation. These results are based on the output of the production cost model, as well as historical data analysis and Monte Carlo simulations.

Provide clients with an understanding of risk within a statistical framework.
Job Requirements:
Level of Education: Bachelor’s (BS) degree in Engineering, Mathematics or similar degree.
Amount/Type of Experience: Understanding of basic market theories and principles as they apply to energy markets.
Certification: None.
